10557335_835289923167947_840609696840405875_n My family is just returning from Fall Break! Do you guys have fall break in your school system like we do? My family and I had a great time. I actually had to go to an Early Childhood Conference for 3 days and then we did a little traveling. We ended up going to Kentucky and stopped by Keeneland and the Woodford Reserve Bourbon distillery. Yes, we took the kids to the race tracks and a bourbon distillery for fall break. (who's shaking their heads?) Surprisingly, both were very interesting and educational. We had a lot of fun learning about the culture of both the races and the bourbon and seeing the excitement and the passion people have for both.  Before we left for Fall Break we had our first ever family photos taken! Seriously, stop shaking your head! We've had plenty of non-professional family photos done but this is our first professional one. Take a look!

Twirl and Take a Bow...Hanging on to Summer

I know what you are thinking...it's Fall...let's get on with pumpkins and beautiful colored leaves and mulled cider. But in the Adirondacks it has been 80 degrees and sunny for the last few days, so I am holding tight to summer. We even went swimming in the lake this weekend in between soccer games and emailing Vern Yip. The water was 64 degrees, but it didn't stop the kids...or my husband for that matter. So in the spirit of wanting summer to last just a little bit longer my features all reminded me of my favorite foot loose and fancy free season. Enjoy the inspiration! Rescued wood turned Michigan "FALL" scrabble tiles.

Good Morning my Beauties!
Well guess what?
It has been feeling like FALL lately here
(which means I have been freezing my tookus off)
That being said....it did motivate me to create some Autumn Decor,
including decorating my mantle.

While we were camping the summer (oh how I already miss summer :))
My Father in Law pulled a box of these wood squares out to burn in the campfire.
Now you all know me by now...
I looked at him and said...
"woa, woa, woa,......whatdayathinkyourdooingtherebuddy?"  :)
To which he replied.".Just getting ready to burn some kindling to start the fire."
I looked at him and said.."hang on"
I went next door to my camper and grabbed a bunch of kindling...and said..
"HERE....I am trading you"!
He knew.....I couldn't let these perfect little square pieces of wood be burned.
He accepted my offer and I brought the wood home....
where it sat........in my garage....
My hubby was thrilled.......NOT!
He said.."what are going to do with those?"
I said..."Make scrabble tiles"
To which his reply came in the form of a NON VERBAL
response that can only be heard by wives...
It was the sound of his eyes ROLLING into the back of his head with
the classic "YEAH RIGHT" look on his face.  :)
Well I took it as a challenge....I didn't know when I was going to make them.
But now I HAD to.
So one night while the hubby was teaching at the college
I stained up some of the squares to look like scrabble tiles.

Then I pulled out my Silhouette cutting machine
and created scrabble letters out of vinyl
and for the "A" I used a state of Michigan graphic that I have
used on other Projects.
You can see those HERE.
Now this is the part where it almost turned into a FAIL...instead of FALL craft.
I laid out my vinyl on my squares...
as usual things were not going smoothly.
I got all the vinyl transferred to my wood blocks but they were
 not sticking for NOTHIN...
I thought...I will use some poly to spray over top of them...
Well, I didn't use the normal poly spray I normally do.
This stuff must have had some other alcohol or acetate chemical in it.
Where I sprayed over the letters it started to basically MELT..
DOH!!!!!
Well, instead of scrapping them right away...I thought
I will wait this out...
I am glad I did.
I let it dry and where I had laid my vinyl there was a perfect impression
of my letters. a nice little raised edge.
So when it was all dry; I pulled off the vinyl and used
a permanent paint pen to color the spots that were not covered in poly.
I actually like how they turned out BETTER.
I don't have to worry about the letters peeling up.
and it fits in perfect with my Fall Mantle.
So like I try to remember...
Be patient...sometimes just like Bob Ross says..
They are happy little accidents.

I hope you enjoyed this little fun Autumn craft.
Be sure to come back tonight for the link party
so we can see what YOU have been working on.
It goes live at 8pm Eastern.
SEE YOU THEN!
Until next time.
Go make someones day BEAUTIFUL.

Twirl and Take a Bow LINK party and FEATURES!

I'm so excited to be selecting this week's Features from the selection of amazing links shared at last week's Twirl & Take a Bow Party! I'm also recovering from the weekend...where I had to move two kids into the dorm. It was exhausting, but exciting!
If you get a chance, hop over and visit me at House on the Way, because I'm sharing the cute DIY Stenciled Curtains that I made from a twin sheet for my daughter's dorm room. My son prefers I not get ahold of his room, but my daughter is more than willing for me to help her decorate!

Thanks so much for joining us at the party and if you're not familiar with House on the Way, I'd love to have you stop by!...and I'd love to connect with you on your favorite social media site or you can subscribe by email...

Peacock blue and silver Vintage glamour Goodwill Desk Makeover

Replaying this Oldie but goodie
while we finish up all our outdoor projects here at the
Art is Beauty House.
ENJOY!
Good Morning My BEAUTIES!
I am really excited about this project!
It was a spur of the moment..(cram it in before all the Holiday festivities...cause YA KNOW..I didn't have a million other things to do...:)) Kind of thing!

The hubby and I had traveled across town to go to a Christmas Party and pretty much anywhere
there is a Goodwill within a five mile radius My inner thrift alarm goes off. Well we were leaving the party and much to my chagrin, I informed the hubby that there was a Goodwill nearby..
Let me tell you he was ECSTATIC!! (are you catching the sarcasm) but being the loving husband
he is..he brought me anyway.
This Beauty was sitting there waiting for me....(more sarcasm) It was beat up..had labels stuck to it and was in need of some major TLC...

and that is what she got. The kids got asked by Grandma to help make some Christmas cookies
and I knew this was my time to work. I grabbed this new PEACOCK color by American Paint Company! I couldn't wait! I lightly sanded the whole thing,(since there had been lots of pieces of tape stuck to it) coated the top with a custom mix of CeCe Caldwells slate and some other colors and started painting the base with the Peacock!

After painting and waxing, loving how the bits of the darker blue were popping through to accent
I decided she needed a little more....shall we say...VAVAVA VOOOM ness...
So I pulled out one of my stencils and some silver paint and got to work.

I love the glamour that the small bit of stencil added to this plain desk.

I also used 3 different knobs to add a nice eclectic vintage feel to it.

I still can't believe when I look at it that it was the same  desk.

It was also another one that I was tempted to keep, but luckily for the hubby,
I had an open space that I needed to fill at the booth, so there she went.
Waiting patiently for someone to bring her home and give her, her CLOSE UP!
I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover and I hope
you are all enjoying the season. Before you know it
will be over and we will be wondering how we got it all done!
So Relax and Enjoy!
Until next time,
Have a BEAUTIFUL day!
